Our Story

How it all started:

My daughter was making and selling handmade “Bee Kind” bookmarks at a local bookstore and they were really cute and popular. I realized bees buzz through my family tree. My dad was a part-time bee rancher for many years. He’d put out bee boards around the local area and carpenter bees would fill them with their larvae. The filled boards could then be sold to alfalfa growers as the bees, once hatched, help pollinate the crops and increase yields. I wanted to do something with bees too. And so the idea of art merchandise with a bee theme was born. It’s estimated that pollination by bees accounts for at least 35% of our food crops and so sustaining bee populations is an important issue that affects us all. So, I created a give back program of 5% of retail sales, which goes to both bee and gardening causes (gardening, especially bee friendly gardening, also helps bees). In addition, the store helps independent artists through an ongoing 10% royalty program. There are 5 total contributing artists. And so helping independent artists, helping bees, creating and applying bee art to fun products and a love of the outdoors all mixed together to create Bee Loving Store.
